Nearby island countries in the Indian Ocean are Sri Lanka to the southeast and the Maldives to the southwest.\nIndia is the seventh largest country in the world by area, and the second most populous country with over a billion people, and prides itself on being the largest democracy on Earth. It's an extremely diverse country, with vast differences in geography, climate, culture, language and ethnicity.
