The best time to visit Guatapé is during the dry season, which runs from December to March and July to August. The weather is generally sunny and pleasant, ideal for outdoor activities. However, the shoulder seasons (April-June and September-November) can also be a good option, with fewer crowds and still favorable weather.

The most common way to get to Guatapé is by bus from Medellín. Buses depart frequently from the Terminal del Norte and the journey takes approximately 2-2.5 hours. You can also hire a private car or take a taxi, which is a faster but more expensive option.

Besides climbing El Peñol rock, you can explore the colorful town, take a boat tour on the Guatapé reservoir, enjoy water sports like kayaking and jet skiing, visit the nearby town of El Peñol, and savor the local cuisine in the many restaurants and cafes.
