Albania (Albanian: Shqipëria) is a country in the Balkans with nearly 3 million inhabitants. The country has been part of Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire and the Ottoman Empire until its first declaration of independence in 1912, and is one of few traditionally Muslim nations in Europe.
