Whittier

The primary way to access Whittier is via the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, a one-lane tunnel that alternates traffic for vehicles and trains. Driving is possible, but be prepared for potential wait times. Alternatively, you can take a train from Anchorage, which provides scenic views along the way.

Whittier and the surrounding Prince William Sound are home to a variety of wildlife, including whales (humpback and orca), sea otters, seals, sea lions, bears, and various bird species. Glacier cruises and kayaking tours offer excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing.

Pack for all types of weather, as conditions can change rapidly. Bring layers of clothing, including waterproof and windproof outerwear, warm hats, gloves, and sturdy footwear. Don't forget essentials like sunscreen, insect repellent, and a camera to capture the stunning scenery.
