Sainte-Mère-Église

The paratrooper mannequin on the church represents John Steele, an American paratrooper who got caught on the church steeple during the D-Day landings. He hung there for hours, pretending to be dead, and became a symbol of the courage and sacrifice of the Allied forces.

The Airborne Museum features a wide array of exhibits, including aircraft, vehicles, uniforms, weapons, and personal items used by the paratroopers during the D-Day landings. It provides a detailed look at the events of June 6, 1944, and the experiences of the soldiers who fought there.

Sainte-Mère-Église is easily accessible by car, located in Normandy, France. It's also possible to reach the village by train to nearby towns and then by local transportation. Many visitors combine a trip to Sainte-Mère-Église with visits to other D-Day landing sites and attractions in the region.
