The best time of year to visit Florence is typically in the spring or fall when the weather is mild and crowds are smaller. July and August can be hot and crowded, and many shops and restaurants may close during August for vacation.

Florentine cuisine is famous for its hearty meat dishes like bistecca alla fiorentina (Florentine steak), as well as pasta dishes like pappardelle al cinghiale (pasta with wild boar ragu). There are also plenty of vegetarian and seafood options to choose from.

Florence is a relatively small city and many attractions are within walking distance. However, there is also a good public transportation system with buses and trams. Taxis and bike rentals are also available.

It is recommended to dress modestly when visiting churches and other religious sites, covering your shoulders and legs. Comfortable walking shoes are also a must as there are many steep hills and cobblestone streets.

While it is helpful to know some Italian phrases, many people in Florence speak English and other languages. It is always appreciated to make an effort to speak some Italian when communicating with locals though!
