The best time to visit Arcata is during the summer months (June-August) when the weather is warmest and driest. However, the shoulder seasons (April-May and September-October) also offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds. Be prepared for cooler temperatures and occasional rain throughout the year.

Must-see attractions include the Arcata Plaza, Redwood National and State Parks, the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary, and the Humboldt State University campus. Consider visiting the Clarke Historical Museum and exploring the local shops and restaurants.

Arcata is a walkable city, especially around the Plaza and downtown area. Bicycles are also a popular mode of transportation. Public transportation is available through the Humboldt Transit Authority (HTA). For exploring the surrounding areas, a car is recommended.
