Guam is an island in the western Pacific Ocean, about three-quarters of the way from Hawaii to the Philippines. (Geographic coordinates: 13 28 N, 144 47 E)\nIt is the largest and southernmost island in the Mariana Islands archipelago. While Guam shares strong linguistic and cultural similarities with the remaining islands of the Mariana Islands archipelago, it is politically distinct: Guam is an unincorporated territory of the United States of America, while the remaining islands of the archipelago comprise the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
