Te Anau

Must-do activities include a boat trip to the Te Anau Glowworm Caves, hiking the Milford Track (or parts of it), exploring Doubtful Sound, and enjoying the scenic beauty of Lake Te Anau. Wildlife viewing opportunities are also abundant, with chances to spot native birds and other animals.

The best time to visit Te Anau is during the summer months (December to February) for warmer weather and longer daylight hours, ideal for hiking and outdoor activities. However, the shoulder seasons (spring and autumn) offer fewer crowds and pleasant weather, while winter provides a unique experience with snow-capped mountains.

Te Anau is accessible by car or bus from Queenstown (approximately a 2-hour drive) and Invercargill (approximately a 2-hour drive). There is also a small airport nearby for scenic flights and chartered services.
