The dry season, from December to April, is generally the best time to visit, offering sunny days and ideal conditions for outdoor activities. However, the shoulder seasons (May-June and September-November) can also be pleasant, with fewer crowds and occasional showers. The rainy season (July-August and November) can bring heavier rainfall, but it also means lush landscapes and fewer tourists.

The easiest way to get to Puerto Viejo is by taking a shuttle or bus from San José or La Fortuna. The journey takes approximately 4-5 hours. You can also rent a car, but be aware that road conditions can vary. The nearest airport is in Limón, but it has limited international flights. Many travelers also arrive via a domestic flight to Limon and then take a taxi or shuttle.
