The best time to visit Plakias is during the shoulder seasons, from May to June and September to October. The weather is pleasant, the crowds are smaller, and prices are generally lower than in the peak summer months (July and August). The sea is warm enough for swimming during these periods.

The nearest airport is Chania International Airport (CHQ) or Heraklion International Airport (HER). From either airport, you can rent a car, take a taxi, or use public transportation. Renting a car is often recommended for exploring the area at your own pace. The drive from Chania is approximately 1.5 hours, and from Heraklion, it's around 2 hours.
