The best time to visit Landmannalaugar is during the summer months, typically from late June to mid-September. This is when the mountain roads are open and the weather is most favorable for hiking and camping. However, be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Landmannalaugar is only accessible by 4x4 vehicles via mountain roads (F-roads). You can rent a 4x4 vehicle, join a guided tour, or take a bus from Reykjavik or other towns. Be aware that F-roads can be challenging and require experience driving on rough terrain.

Pack for all types of weather, including rain, wind, and sun. Essential items include waterproof and windproof clothing, sturdy hiking boots, warm layers, a hat, gloves, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Don't forget a swimsuit for the hot springs and a tent and sleeping bag if you plan to camp.
