The best time to visit Hualien City is during the spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) months. The weather is generally pleasant, with lower humidity and less rainfall compared to the summer months. These seasons are ideal for outdoor activities like hiking in Taroko Gorge and exploring the coastal areas.

The most common way to reach Hualien City is by train from Taipei. The journey takes approximately 2-3 hours and offers scenic views of the Taiwanese countryside. Alternatively, you can fly into Hualien Airport (HUN) from various domestic destinations. Buses are also available, but the train is generally the most convenient and comfortable option.
