Cradle of Humankind

The Cradle of Humankind is easily accessible from Johannesburg. The most convenient way is by car, as it allows you to explore the various sites at your own pace. Guided tours are also available, which often include transportation from Johannesburg and provide expert insights into the area's history and significance.

A full day is recommended to fully experience the Cradle of Humankind. This allows time to visit the Sterkfontein Caves, explore the Maropeng Visitor Centre, and potentially visit other sites within the area. Allow at least 3-4 hours for the Maropeng Centre and 2-3 hours for the Sterkfontein Caves.

Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as you'll be doing a fair amount of walking, especially in the caves. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses, as the South African sun can be strong.
