Beppu

The "Hells of Beppu" are a collection of eight unique and visually stunning hot springs that are not for bathing. They are primarily for viewing and offer a fascinating look at the diverse colors and geothermal activity of the area. Each hell has its own distinct characteristics, such as the vibrant blue of Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell) or the bubbling mud of Oniishibozu Jigoku (Shaven Monk's Head Hell).

Beppu offers a variety of local specialties. You can find delicious seafood, including fresh fish and shellfish. Jigoku-mushi (hell-steamed) dishes, cooked using the steam from the hot springs, are a must-try. Also, try the local ramen and other regional delicacies.

The best time to visit Beppu is during the spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) when the weather is mild and pleasant. The cherry blossoms in spring and the colorful foliage in autumn add to the beauty of the city. Summer can be hot and humid, while winter can be cold, but both seasons still offer enjoyable experiences.
