Arica enjoys a pleasant climate year-round, but the best time to visit is during the summer months (December to March) when the weather is warmest and ideal for beach activities. However, this is also the peak tourist season, so expect higher prices and more crowds. The shoulder seasons (September to November and April to May) offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer tourists.

Popular activities in Arica include surfing at El Laucho beach, sunbathing and swimming at Playa Brava, exploring the historical sites like El Morro de Arica, visiting the Azapa Valley for olive tasting and archaeological sites, and enjoying the vibrant nightlife. Adventure seekers can also go sandboarding in the nearby dunes or take a day trip to the Lauca National Park.

Arica is a relatively walkable city, especially the downtown area and the beaches. Taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available and affordable for longer distances. Buses are also a convenient and inexpensive way to get around the city and to nearby destinations. Renting a car is an option if you plan to explore the surrounding areas at your own pace.
